Message from the NCBJ President
The NCBJ October Conference Is Cancelled
It is with heavy heart that the NCBJ Board has voted to cancel this year’s in-person annual conference in October in San Diego. The Board did not come to this decision lightly or easily. The Board considered the uncertainty of what October will bring, including whether California will allow conferences of our size (even with possible diminished attendance). We also looked at the adjustments to our conference space and programming that health and safety requirements of the State of California and interpreted by Marriott corporate for the hotel. Based on those adjustments, we and the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina agreed the conference, as planned, was not possible.
The NCBJ is hoping to present at least some of our educational programming. Judge Deborah Thorne and her committee have been working very hard for the past year putting together some incredible, cutting edge sessions. We are working on some different options to make as much of that programming available in some format over some period of time. We will also be working on how we will modify our two wonderful community service programs. Judge Margaret Mann and a team she put together have worked for over a year putting together these programs at the Monarch School and at the Veteran’s Village of San Diego. We will keep you appraised of the “remote” volunteer opportunities we are exploring for both those projects. For now, you can learn more about these very important organizations at their websites. See the Community Service tab for information about these special organizations.
Thank you to those of you who already registered and booked hotel rooms. NCBJ will begin processing registration refunds next week paid by the same method used when you registered. You do not need to request a refund, it is automatic. We are working with the Marriott on the process for cancelling hotel reservations and will advise reservation holders.
One of the many things that makes the NCBJ Annual Conference so special is that so many of us in the insolvency space come together in one place to meet, learn, socialize and party. Having lost that opportunity this year, our get together next year on October 6-9, 2021 in Indianapolis will be extra special. So even though we will all miss the NCBJ first, and maybe last, Sail the Bay Regatta, get ready for some high octane VIP experiences in Indianapolis.
Stay well and stay safe. See you on the Race Track in 2021!
Hon. Laurel M. Isicoff
NCBJ President 2019-2020
